Timelapse of an A3 commission
I’m a Bristol-based artist and was first introduced to art at school. Having studied at the Royal Academy Bristol School of Art, I developed my own unique style combining traditional methods and modern day resources. I have always been inspired by the detail in traditional art such as the equestrian artist George Stubbs but also the boldness of brushstroke in modern artwork for example Justine Osborne.
I managed to develop my skills as a painter in between my studies at Goldsmiths University where I earned a BA in Drama and Theatre Arts; this is where I started to develop my two styles of artwork. My aim is to convey a deeply personal impression of each subject, through the use of bold paint techniques, colour and light. My black and white commissions focus on the juxtaposition of light and the darkness of fur. The watercolour showcases the expressive vibrancy of colour; applying the paint first, then drawing in the finer details afterwards in pen.
What started as a lockdown hobby of drawing my two labradors, developed within a year to becoming a fully establish working artist. You can view examples of my work by visiting either the portfolio page, Facebook page or for Instagram just search @chescaspawtraits. Here you will be able to gain more of an insight into how I work.
Meet the newest family member Isla Cheek. She loves her sister Bonnie, sticks, puddles, squeaky toys and slippers. Don't forget the dog treats!
My business was inspired by my two labradors. Without them this idea would have never become a reality. Sadly our oldest passed away and it's made me realise how precious these commissions can be.
